What is an acute asthma attack?
This is a serious stage for the asthmatic patients. This stage can be defined as running for a long distance and at the same time breathing with a straw. The lungs and other airways in the body can really become arrow thus causing it difficult to breathe. The chest wall and the diaphragm even become very narrow it becomes extremely tough to exhale carbon di oxide and inhale oxygen, this condition should be treated well on time else it can cause the asthmatic person’s death.
Who are more susceptible to this condition?
There are people who suffer from non fatal asthmatic attacks and even there are people who become victim to fatal asthmatic attacks. There are chances that these acute asthmatic attacks might affect only a few categories of asthmatics. These might be elderly people, those whose airways are more reactive towards body allergies, people who have poor mechanical body ventilation and also to those who have been under the effect of steroidal medicines for a longer time. There are people who are on corticosteroids but when they drop their corticosteroids are also susceptible to acute asthmatic affects.
Stages including acute asthmatic attacks:
When a person suffers from acute asthma he or she shows the basic symptoms such as coughing wheezing and also shortness of breath. Apart from these problems there are chances that this person might show a change in the symptoms when much problems persists. The asthmatic always tries to sit with everyone in a position that the lungs and chest consequently opens up.
The breathing in the asthmatic person becomes tough and the chest expansion is to reduce this condition. The recession in breath would be very much visible and even marked. The asthmatic would try and control it more often than not.
In acute stages the coughing wheezing and even breathing problems repeat it even after taking proper medicine. A peak flow reading of less than 50% than the normal is an indicator of an acute asthmatic affect in the person. Trying to control the peak flow can definitely ruin the asthmatic condition of the person.
As the acute stage increases the chest becomes more and more clogged, the person faces a silent chest type of symptom. There is no improvement in the breathing process of the person. These type of asthmatics needs urgent doctor advice and medical care as soon as possible. If this condition is not monitored properly it can really become fatal.
The asthmatics in acute condition are not able to speak well, they may speak two to three words at a time, and they might fumble more and more while speaking. Thus proper timely care should be given so as to avoid any unavoidable circumstances; else this stage can be really be fatal or might cause some serious lifelong diseases.
