Asthma overview

Asthma is a disease of the airways, and has a chronic character. It cannot be cured, but the possibility to keep it under control allows asthmatic people to have almost normal life. From medical perspective, it can be defined as an inflammation that increases sensitivity of the airwaves, which reacts violently to allergic factors. This reaction causes the tubes that carry air into the lugs to narrow and decrease the usual amount of air needed by the lungs.

The common symptoms are: coughing, wheezing, breath problems or chest tightness . In case these signs are stronger and more violent that usually, an asthma attack takes plan. These attacks are provoked by a tightening of the airwaves, which cause the lungs to receive an insufficient amount of air. This increases the inflammations and more mucus is produced, the mucus also narrows the airwaves. Breathing becomes very difficult at this point.

There are attacks that can even cause death by the prevention of oxygen to reach the vital organs. The severe attacks are different in severity, which makes this disease a medical emergency.

These conditions need special care, from both the patient and his doctor which must be visited regulars. The person affected by asthma should be aware of the elements that can cause him or her attacks: allergic or irritating factors and avoid them.

Correctly treated, cared and monitored , asthma is a condition that allows almost any kind of activities. Contrary, it may seriously affect a person in school, work and everyday life.
